Overview of mountain biking route:

MTB route Maglić is situated in the eastern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina in National Park Sutjeska. Maglić is the highest peak of Bosnia and Herzegovina at elevation of 2386m over the sea level. The first section of the route is placed on the paved road, than follows the unpaved road and a short carriageway section. Last 2.5 km from Prijevor saddle at elevation 1650m to Maglić peak is for hiking only. From Prijevor to Maglić peak the elevation gain is 700m. Very steep, rocky and exposed hiking path is labeled. Be warned, good hiking shoes are a must to hike on the peak. The next section leads to Trnovačko Jezero lake in Montenegro. The section near Trnovačko Jezero lake is placed on a very rocky trail. Most of the sections are labeled. The route can be combined with Mratinje – Tjentište (Maglić), Tjentište – Donje Bare and Tjentišta – Zelengora  routes.

Getting there: Europe, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sarajevo, Foča, Tjentište or coming from Croatia follow the direction Dubrovnik, Trebinje, Bileća, Gacko, Tjentište.

Description of MTB route:

The starting point of the route is at the parking place near Hotel in Tjentište village in National Park Sutjeska. From Tjentište proceed to Foča and turn right at this junction. The paved road leads to Prijevor saddle direction. After few km the paved road turns into the unpaved road. The trail leads near Skakavac waterfall sightseeing point and Dragoš saddle (Dragoš Sedlo). At elevation of about 1550m turn right on the carriageway and proceed to Prijevor saddle. There is the fountain and labeled junction at Prijevor. I left the bike at Prijevor and hiked to Maglić peak. Despite the label sign ‘3h’ at Prijevor I needed 62 minutes to climb from Prijevor to Maglić peak. The hiking path is very steep, rocky and exposed. Check the photos in below gallery. Hike this section with helmet and good hiking shoes only. From Maglić peak I returned on the same trail to Prijevor saddle. The carriageway and singletrack leads to Trnovačko Jezero lake in Montenegro. After the descent to Suva Jezerina valley the rocky singletrack leads to Trnovačko Jezero lake. From Trnovačko Jezero lake I returned back to the junction at Suva Jezerina and than proceeded to Suha along the singletrack and carriageway sections. Pass the ramp at Suha and turn right on the paved road that leads back to Tjentište village. For more details check above interactive Map and below Gallery & Notes of the route.

Best time for ride: summer. Due to steep and exposed hiking trail to Maglić peak take some good hiking shoes and helmet too. In case of rainy days avoid wet rocky path on the trail to the peak. The entrance fee is charged in National Park Sutjeska. Take the passport. GPS unit with uploaded route is a must.
