Šatorina peak at elevation of 1622 m over the sea level is the highest peak of Middle Velebit mountain. There are many unpaved roads and trails in this area. During summer 2007, I decided to explore the trail across the Šatorina peak. This is the first reported ride on Šatorina peak. Most of the trail is unpaved road and few kilometers before and after the summit there is all mountain singletrack section. The route can be combined with the routes Baške Oštarije – Kugina Kuća,  Jadovno – Baške Oštarije, Pazarište – Štirovača and Jadovno – Štirovača routes.

The starting point of the mountain bike route is unpaved road at Dabarska Kosa saddle. Keep the ride to the north on the unpaved road along Dabar Cliffs (in Croatian Dabarski Kukovi). On the ride side there is Ravni Dabar valley. Pass the tunnel and keep straight on the labeled road to Kugina Kuća (Kuga’s Hut). There is a well cistern near the hut. Then proceed on the main unpaved road in direction to Štirovača rain forest valley. Pass Jovanovića Padež area and and few kilometers before Štirovača there is paved road and soon you will come on Štirovača valley surrounded with Velebit peaks. In the center of the valley there is a resting place with the spring of water. Continue with the paved road in direction to Mrkvište hut. Turn left on the crossroad near the hut and proceed on the unpaved road. After 2,2km, turn left on unpaved road that is situated at the edge of Dundovića Padež valley. In next 8km you will reach Dokozina Plana meadows. On the south there is a view on Šatorina peak. Take some brake here and prepare yourself for hard part of the ride. Proceed 2,1km and then turn left on the labeled singletrack section. After 2,7km there is Šatorina peak. To go back, follow the same track for few hundred meters and then turn left on the labeled singletrack to Kugina Kuća (Kuga’s Hut). It’s hard downhill and it’s better to walk with the bike until reach the singletrack section in the forest. You can ride most of the section in the forest and after few hundred meters there is a carriageway to the south course and towards back to Kugina Kuća. Proceed straight and on the next crossroad turn right and keep the ride on the steep unpaved road. After the steep ascent follows the long descent to the south. At the cross with the paved road turn left to proceed back to Dabarska Kosa.  The total trail is shaped like number 8. For more details check interactive map, elevation profile and photo gallery.
