Overview of mountain biking route:

MTB route Moldoveanu is situated in Făgăraș Mountains on Southern Carpathians mountain in Argeș County. Moldoveanu is the highest peak of Romania at elevation of 2544m over the sea level. First section of the route is placed on the unpaved road and than follows the ride on a short carriageway section. Due to many steep ups & downs the last 8 km to Moldoveanu peak is for hiking only. Hiking path at the ridge is labeled. Despite total length of 90km the complete trail is fast. At the end of unpaved section there are clean water streams. The last section leading back to Nucsoara village along the ridge is placed on the rocky carriageway. GPS with uploaded route is a must.

Description of MTB route:

The starting point of the route is near the lake in Nucsoara village in Argeș County. There is a parking place too. From Nucsoara descend on the paved road and than turn left to Slatina village. The paved road turns into the wide unpaved road that leads to the north course. At the next junctions follow the blue labels. The unpaved road leads along the canyon to the ridge of Făgăraș mountain in Southern Carpathians. Keep the ride on the unpaved road. At the ridge there is the junction. Keep the ride to the west course. At the next junction turn right on the carriageway that leads to the north course. Few hundred meters after this label the carriageway ends and the hiking section starts. I left the bike few hundred meters from this point and hiked around 8 km to reach Moldoveanu peak at 2544m. The hiking trail is labeled. From Moldoveanu I returned back on the same trail to the junction and than proceeded on the carriageway that leads to the south course along the ridge of Făgăraș mountain.
