Overview of mountain biking route:

MTB route Jelsa – Hvar is situated on The Island of Hvar. The route is long and fast, mostly placed on paved & unpaved roads and carriageways. The new built unpaved road section from Sveta Nedjelja to Hvar town is included in this MTB route. The ride can be done in opposite direction too. All the sections are dry. The route leads along the south coast near the famous vineyards. Due to many unlabeled junctions the GPS unit with the uploaded route is recommended for fast and safe navigation. The route can be split in two shorter MTB routes if you consider the unpaved section from Milna to Sv Roko chapel via Malo Grablje and Veliko Grablje villages. The route can be combined with Stari Grad – Sv Nikola – Vrboska route.

Getting there: Europe, Croatia, Split, Stari Grad, Jelsa or Dubrovnik, Drvenik, Sućuraj, Jelsa.

Description of MTB route:

The starting point of the mountain bike route is in Jelsa settlement. From Jelsa proceed along the coast to the east course. After about 3.5km turn left on the carriageway. Hike along the bay to Sv Luka chapel. 50 meters before Sv Luka chapel there is a junction. Turn right and a short path leads to the carriageway. Turn left at the carriageway and proceed along the coast to Velika Prapatna bay. Descend to Velika Prapatna bay, again hike few meters along the bay and than ascend on the unpaved road to the south course. At the crossroad with the paved road turn left on the paved road and proceed to Humac village. In Humac village turn right on the unpaved road and after few hundred meters keep right and proceed along the ridge of The Island of Hvar to the west course. At the labeled crossroad turn left and descend to Zavala settlement. From Zavala proceed on the paved road along the coast to the west course. Pass near Ivan Dolac and Jagodna villages. In Sveta Nedjelja settlement descend to the beach. Ride back to Sveta Nedjelja and proceed along the coast on the new built unpaved road to Dubovica bay, Milna and and than to Hvar town. At the crossroad with the paved road turn left and proceed on the paved road to Zaraće and Milna. From Milna proceed on the paved road to Hvar town. Pass along the coast of Hvar town and then ascend on paved road to Napoleonic fortress. Few hundred meters before Napoleonic fortress there is a junction. From the junction proceed on the unpaved road to Brusje village. In Brusje turn right just near the cemetery and proceed on the carriageway to the east course. At the crossroad with the paved road turn right and proceed to Sv Roko chapel. Turn left near Sv Roko chapel and descend on Napoleonic carriageway to Stari Grad. At the crossroad turn left on the paved road and descend to Stari Grad. In Stari Grad keep the ride along the coast to the east course. The wide unpaved road section leads back to Jelsa.

Due to many unlabeled junctions the GPS unit with the uploaded route is a must for fast and safe navigation. The route can be split in two shorter MTB routes if you consider the unpaved section from Milna to Sv Roko chapel via Malo Grablje and Veliko Grablje villages. The GPS tracklog Milna – Malo Grablje – Veliko Grablje – Sv Roko is included as the option in attached GPS tracklog.

Best time for ride: winter, spring and fall. During summer time is very hot!
