Overview of mountain biking route:

Mratinje – Tjentište (Maglić) is a long circular MTB route placed on Maglić mountain in the direction from Mratinje village – Strmac saddle – Ždrijelo canyon – Ulobić plateau – Cigansko Polje plateau – Mrkalj Klade – Prijevor – Suva Jezerina – Trnovačko Jezero – back to Mrkalj Klade – saddle Dragoš Sedlo – Tjentište – Foča – Šćepan Polje – Mratinje. Maglić mountain is situated on the territory of Bosnia & Herzegovina and Montenegro. The lake Trnovačko Jezero is a must to visit. There are many other nice places like rivers Piva & Sutjeska, Mratinje, Tjentište and the rain forest Perućica. Across Maglić there are many unpaved roads and trails. This route is the first reported ride over Maglić mountain from Montenegro to Bosnia & Herzegovina. The route can be combined with Maglić, Tjentište – Zelengora or  Tjentište – Donje Bare routes.

Getting there: 1. Europe, Montenegro, Podgorica, than Nikšić, Plužine, Mratinje or

Description of MTB route

The start and end point of the trail is Mratinje village situated in the valley between Mratinje lake and Maglić mountain. From the center of the village proceeds the paved road in the direction to Šćepan Polje. Few hundred meters from the center of the village turn left on carriageway in direction to Strmac above Mratinje lake. The steep ascent follows till the saddle. Around 3 km after the saddle turn left on the singletrack through the Ždrijelo canyon and hike up through the forest. After around 1.5km the singletrack reaches the meadows in front of Maglić. Do not miss spring of water – Kalaj Studenac on the right side of the track. Follow the singletrack to Stubica vantage point on Ulobić plateau where you can enjoy in the beautiful view on Mratinje valley. From Ulobić plateau go to the north in the direction to Cigansko Polje plateau. There is the border line between BH & MNE. There is no control of the border line. At the end of Cigansko Polje follow the track through the forest on the left side and reach the first unpaved road. Proceed to Mrkalj Klade and than ride on the unpaved road to the south. On the right side is opened view on well known Peručica rain forest and Zelengora mountain in the background. Follow the road to Prijevor saddle. There is a spring of water on the right side of the road. Proceed to Suva Jezerina where you can leave your bike and hike to the lake Trnovačko Jezero. From  Trnovačko Jezero come back and few hundred meters before Mrkalj Klade turn left on unpaved road to the saddle Dragoš Sedlo. From the saddle follows the long descent to Tjentište village. In Tjentište turn right to Foča city. Few km before Foča there is a shorter way on the right side via the bridge over Drina river to Šćepan Polje. I don’t recommend to use it because the bridge was in very bad condition. Follow the road to Foča and than to Šćepan polje where is the border between Bosnia & Herzegovina and Montenegro. It would be 20km more but you are on the safe side. Then ride back on the main road near Piva river to Mratinje lake & Mratinje village.  For more details check above interactive map and below elevation profile & Gallery of the route.
