Overview of mountain biking route:

The mountain bike route Pomena – Montokuc is placed in the west region of The Island of Mljet. The west region of Mljet belongs to National Park Mljet. The route starts from Hotel Odisej in Pomena and proceeds along the coasts of The Small Lake & The Great Lake and than leads to Montokuc sightseeing point. The trail is dry and rocky. Due to steep ascent, the final ascent section to Montokuc is for hiking only. The route can be combined with Blato – Pomena and Polače – Goveđari routes.

Getting there: Europe, Croatia, Dubrovnik or Split, Pelješac, Sobra (Mljet), Pomena.

Description of MTB route:

The starting point of the route is next to the Hotel Odisej in Pomena. Proceed on the paved road to Goveđari and after about 1.30km turn right, pass the ramp and proceed on the carriageway to The Small Lake. At the junction at the coast of The Small Lake keep right and ride along the coast of the lake. Keep the ride on the singletrack just along the coast of the lake. Pass the bridge between The Small Lake and The Great Lake and than proceed to Soline. At the labeled junction turn left and ascend on the rocky carriageway to the next labeled junction. Turn left and proceed on the steep and rocky singletrack to Montokuc sightseeing point. From Montokuc downhill on the labeled singletrack to north west course. The singletrack ends at the junction. Turn left on the carriageway and ride back to the coast of The Great Lake. From The Great Lake ride back on the paved road along the coast. Turn right just before the bridge and proceed on the carriageway back to Pomena. For more details check above interactive Map and below Gallery & Notes of the route.

Notes & references:

The best time for ride: winter, spring or fall. During summer time is very hot. The entrance fee is charged in The National Park Mljet. During summer time there are many hiker, so be careful during ride on the singletracks. GPS unit with the uploaded route is a must. With The Map of The Island of Mljet the routes can be easy combined.
