Overview of mountain biking route:

All mountain MTB route Konjic – Zelena Glava is situated on Prenj mountain in the central region of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Prenj is one of the most beautiful mountains in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The route passes near the well known peaks and areas like Crno Polje, Šivadija, Osobac, Otiš, Jezerce, Tisovica, Vjetrena Brda etc.  Zelena Glava is the highest peak of Prenj mountain at elevation of 2107 meters over the sea level. After the long and easy section from Konjic town, the final section to Zelena Glava includes the long hiking section. The downhill trail from the last junction before Zelena Glava peak to Tisovica valley is technically very demanding and some hiking is necessary too. All the sections are dry and rocky. The route can be combined with Borašnica route.

Getting there: Europe, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Konjic town. Konjic is situated on the highway between Sarajevo and Mostar.

Description of MTB route:

The starting point of MTB route is Konjic town. From the center of Konjic proceed to Jablanica direction, pass the bridge and turn left to Boračko Jezero. Keep left at the labeled crossroad near Bijela village and proceed to Boračko Jezero direction. The long paved section leads to Borci village. At the second turn there is the fountain.  The long ascent ends few hundred meters after WW II monument. At the end of Borci village leave the paved road and turn right to Rujišta direction. The carriageway leads to the south west course. At the next junctions keep left, keep right, keep right, keep straight, turn right and the labeled carriageway ends at the edge of Crno Polje region. From this point proceeds on the labeled singletrack. The next section to Jezerce has many short ups and downs and hike with the bike is a must. The singletrack is labeled with red/white labels. In the middle of the section there is the labeled spring of water named Kamenac or Pizdina voda. The spring of the water is situated in the slit of the stone about 30 meters on the left side of the trail. The trail leads straight to Jezerce region and Jezerce hut. About 170 meters from the hut at north course there is the spring of drinking water. Jezerce hut is at elevation about 1600m over the sea level. From Jezerce hut proceed to south west course to the peak Zelena Glava. The steep ascent on the labeled singletrack leads to Zelena Glava peak. This is very hard section and I carried the bike almost all the section. At the junction labeled with “Zelena Glava 1h” you can leave the bike and hike to Zelena Glava peak. The junction is at elevation of about 1900 meters and  Zelena Glava peak is at 2107 meters over the sea level. It takes about 45 minutes to Zelena Glava peak.  From Zelena Glava I come back to the last junction, pickup the bike and proceed to the labeled trail to Vrutak hut and Tisovica valley. The risky downhill ride is possible on some sections to Vrutak hut. Below Vrutak hut there is the labeled hazardous area. Be careful and keep the ride on the labeled singletrack situated just below Vrutak hut. The left side of the singletrack is  the labeled mine field. After few hundred meters the hazardous area ends and the singletrack leads to Tisovica valley. At the edge of Tisovica valley there is the spring of the water situated in the slit of the stone about 150 meters on the left side of the trail. Proceed to the north west course and in the middle of Tisovica valley there is the labeled junction. Keep the ride to north west course or Bijela (Konjic) direction. At the edge of Tisovica valley the singletrack turns into the carriageway that leads to Bijela village and Konjic. After the long ascent from Tisovica the carriageway leads above Neretva canyon and than follows the long descent to Bijela valley. At all next junctions keep straight and the carriageway ends in Bijela village. In Bijela the carriageway turns into the paved road that leads straight to Konjic town. For more details check above interactive Map and below Gallery & Notes of the route.

Notes & references:

The best time for ride: summer and autumn.  During summer time is very hot. Take enough drinks.  Due to the hazardous area near Vrutak hut keep the ride on the labeled trail only. GPS unit with uploaded route is a must.
