Overview of mountain biking route:

The mountain bike route Cesarska Gora – Bizeljsko Gorje is situated near the border line of Croatia and Slovenia. The starting point of the route is Klanjec town situated in Hrvatsko Zagorje in western Croatia. The route leads to Kumrovec and than to Slovenian side in the region of hills named Bizeljsko Gorje. Near the trail there are few castles. There are many ups and downs. Many sections are placed on the paved roads.




 
Getting there: Europe, Croatia, Zagreb, Klanjec, or Slovenia, Krško, Bizeljsko, Klanjec.

Description of MTB route:

The starting point of the route is Klanjec town. From the center of Klanjec proceed to the west course on the labeled trail to Cesargrad. After the short ascent on the paved road, turn right at the junction and proceed to the end of the paved road. Proceed on the short stairs and descent to the carriageway. The steep ascent leads to the spring of the water. Turn right at the spring of the water and the singletrack leads to the Cesargrad hut and the ruins of Cesargrad castle. From the castle ride back on the same trail. Near the first house on the left side of the trail, turn left and descent on the singletrack. The singletrack turns into the paved road that leads to the junction. Turn left to the monument (in honor of Croatian national anthem Lijepa Naša) or turn right to Kumrovec. In Kumrovec there is the outdoor museum and there is marshal Tito birthplace and Tito birth house. Tito was the president of former Yugoslavia. From Kumrovec proceed on the highway to Slovenia. Pass the border and than turn left to Bistrica ob Sotli. Pass the village and at the junction turn left to Bizeljski Grad castle or turn right to Svete Gore. From Svete Gore proceed to the west course on the carriageway. After the long section along the forest the carriageway ends with the junction. Keep left on the paved road, descent for about 1,2km and than turn left on the carriageway just in front of the church. The carriageway leads to tower Pišečki Grad. From the tower proceed to on the unpaved road to the south east course. At the next junction keep left  on the paved road. Pass Pišece village and keep the ride to the north east course. Proceed along the south side of Bizeljsko Gorje hills. The trail leads below Bizeljski Grad castle and descends to the border line between Slovenia and Croatia. Pass the border and ascent on the paved road back  to Klanjec. For more details check above interactive Map and below Gallery & Notes of the route.

Notes & references:

The best time for ride: all seasons, during winter time check the snow conditions. Take the passport. After rainy days the carriageway and singletrack sections of the route are very muddy. GPS unit with uploaded route is a must.
