Overview of mountain biking route:

MTB route Ljubunčić – Velika Golija is situated in the south west region of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Ljubunčić village is a good access point to Velika Golija mountain. The most of the sections are placed on a dry and rocky carriageway. Due to the steep ascent to the ridge, count to hike on some short sections. The downhill ride is possible from Veliki Vrh peak. Veliki Vrh is the highest elevation point of Velika Golija mountain. During the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina the war line was placed along Velika Golija mountain. At the ridge keep the ride on the carriageway and don’t ride off the carriageway. You can ride the route in opposite direction too. Due to many unlabeled junctions the GPS unit with the uploaded route is a must for fast and safe navigation.

Getting there: Europe, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sarajevo, Bugojno, Livno, Ljubunčić village or coming from Croatia you can choose direction Split, Sinj, Trilj, Kamensko, Livno, Ljubunčić village.

Description of MTB route:

The starting point of the MTB route is at the crossroad near Ljubunčić village placed at the highway Livno – Bihać. Coming from Livno turn right at the crossroad, proceed on the paved road for about 100 meters and than turn left on the rocky and steep carriageway. Keep straight on all the junctions until you reach the junction in the forest. Turn left at the junction and proceed on the unpaved road for about 600 meters. Turn right at the next junction and proceed to the ridge of Velika Golija mountain. The rocky carriageway is partly overgrown in the grass. Due to steep ascent on some short section the hiking is needed. The carriageway leads to the ridge of Velika Golija mountain. Near the ridge there are few shelters used during the last war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the area near the ridge keep the ride on the carriageway only. Do not ride off the carriageway! FromVeliki Vrh peak ride back on the same trail. At the junction proceed on the unpaved road  to the west course. After the long section along the forest, keep left at the next junction. Descend to Strupnić village, cross the highway  and proceed along Livanjsko Polje field. There are many junctions on the downhill section. The last section passes along the Livanjsko Polje field and leads back to Ljubunčić village. For more details check above interactive Map and below Gallery & Notes of the route.

Notes & references:

The route is recommended during late spring, summer and fall. Take enough water, there are no springs of water on the route. Due to many unlabeled junctions the GPS unit with the uploaded route is a must for fast and safe navigation. It’s more easy to ride the route in opposite direction. Due to hazardous areas (mine fields) in the area near the ridge keep the ride on the carriageway only!
