Overview of mountain biking route:

The mountain bike route Sobra – Babino Polje is placed in the central region of The Island of Mljet. The route starts from Sobra port and leads to the west along Babino Polje field. From Babino Polje field I add the trails to Ulysses Cave (Odisejeva spilja) and than to Sutmiholjska bay. As the option I add the hiking trail to Veliki Grad. Veliki Grad is the highest elevation point of The Island of Mljet. The route is fast and easy. The route can be combined with Sobra – Prožura route.

Getting there: Europe, Croatia, Dubrovnik or Split, Pelješac, Sobra port (Mljet).

Description of MTB route:

The starting point of the route is Sobra port. From Sobra port proceed to Sobra bay, visit the fish breeding site and the lake named Blatina. From Blatina proceed on the paved road to Babino Polje. Turn left at the next crossroad and after about 30 meters there is the junction. Keep straight at the junction and than descend to the coast. Just above Brnjestrova bay turn right and proceed on the carriageway along the coast. Ascend to the field Babino Polje than turn left and after about 150 meters turn right. Proceed to the west course. Pass near Sv Vlaho chapel and than after about 1.10km there is a junction. From the junction the labeled path leads to Ulysses Cave (Odisejeva spilja). From the last junction proceed on the carriageway to the west course. The ascent leads to the paved road. Proceed on the paved road to the west course. Turn left at the next crossroad. The unpaved road descends to Sutmiholjska bay. From Sutmiholjska bay ride back to the paved road and than proceed to Babino Polje. Turn left along the paved road through the village. In the village there is the junction. From the junction the singletrack leads to Veliki Grad peak. The singletrack is for hiking only. Veliki Grad is the highest elevation point of The Island of Mljet. You can leave the bike in the village and hike to Veliki Grad. From Babino Polje ride back on the paved road to Sobra port. Pass near the Sv Andrija chapel and proceed straight to Sobra port. For more details check above interactive Map and below Gallery & Notes of the route.

Notes & references:

The best time for ride: winter, spring or fall. During summer time is very hot. As the option in GPS tracklog I add the hiking trail to Veliki Grad peak. GPS unit with uploaded route is a must. With The Map of The Island of Mljet the routes can be easy combined.
