The Island of Krk is one of the biggest islands at the Adriatic coast. The meadows and deciduous trees are the typical scenery in north area of Krk. The south area of Krk is much more dry and rocky with the conifers in some areas. The route Punat – Obzova is situated in the south area of Krk. The trail leads along the ridge of Krk passing Veli Vrh, Brestovica and Obzova peaks. Obzova is the highest elevation point of  Krk at 568 meters over the see level. All the trails are dry and rocky. During summer is very hot so I suggest to plan the route for winter, spring or fall. On some sections there are gates for the cattle. Open the gates, close it and continue the ride.

The starting point of the mountain bike route is at the coast in marina Punat. Above Punat there is a road Punat – Baška where is the crossroad for Veli Vrh. The first section is the carriageway with the steep ascent. It turns first into singletrack than again into the carriageway. After about 2.5 km at the crossroad turn right on the paved road. This the highway Punat – Baška. Proceed 1.1 km in the direction Baška and on the next crossroad, at Treskavac saddle, turn right on the unpaved road for Veli Vrh. The road proceeds to the south and some sections are placed on paved road too. After 3km there is the crossroad. Turn right on the labeled carriageway for Veli Vrh. After few hundred meters the carriageway turns into the singletrack. The singletrack is labeled with white/red signs. For the ride you can choose some sections out of the trail too. The orientation is easy because there is no trees and all the terrain is easy visible. Few hundred meters before Veli Vrh peak start to hike with the bike. From Veli Vrh peak leads the labeled rocky trail to Brestovica peak and than to Obzova peak. From Obzova you can get a nice view in the south direction to the North Velebit mountain. From Obzova the labeled downhill trail proceeds first to the west and than to north west to Punat – Malantruš. After about 3.5km the singletrack turns into the carriageway. The downhill section is technically very demanding. Be careful! On the next junction turn left, open and close the gate and proceed on the labeled singletrack. The trail ends on the paved road in Punat. Turn right and proceed to the starting point at the coast. For more details check above interactive Map and below Gallery of the route.
